Under 120 League away to Stevenage
St Albans (away) vs Stevenage
Author: Keith Feldman

Angelo Colacino’s unremarkable game on Board 1 involved him coming under an unrelenting barrage of checks – culminating in checkmate.
My own game on Board 2 looked, throughout, like a draw. However, my opponent spotted a mate in 2, but ignored my own threat of a series of checks that would force his king into the middle of the board with no remaining defence. He resigned just before mate.
The circumstances regarding Alexis Turrall's game on Board 3 were quite remarkable. He had a strong attack against Paul Bainger (their captain) which was very well defended (so Alexis told me, although I was still playing my game at the time).
I observed the endgame when Paul was 2 pawns ahead of Alexis. Paul managed to queen first, but didn't seem to be able to prevent Alexis from queening too. Paul then made what he regarded as a mistake, but the game should have been (at worst, for Paul) a draw - but probably a win, as he was still a pawn up.
However, Paul resigned, saying that he should take his punishment for his poor move and, anyway, was too tired to continue!
Stuart James on Board 4 made an early blunder from which he was unable to recover.
A very lucky 2 - 2 draw for us!
