The Early Knights

St. Albans Early Knights Club is the junior section of the St. Albans Chess Club, which meets at County Constitutional Club, 29 Ridgmont Road, St Albans, Hertfordshire AL1 3AG, on Monday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. It is open to all school-age children keen to play and improve their chess. Parents are welcome to stay and any help from chess playing Mums or Dads would be appreciated.

The Early Knights Chess Club is currently full, but we are running a waiting list for when places become available. Please email the coordinator at the address below if you wish to join that list.

Early Knights runs during school term times. Coaching is provided on a regular basis by Jonathan Phillips – a past member of Early Knights - and Tom McConnell.  Games are played each session with results scored in a league which runs through the season.

As with previous years, there will be a club league, Christmas and end-of-season competitions, occasional training evenings and the "Early Knights" will be entered into the "UK Chess Challenge" tournament.

This year there will also be a series of more formal training sessions run by Chris Cook, who is responsible over many years for the success of Hertfordshire juniors at county level. The first of these sessions is on September 26th.

We hope to arrange a couple of friendly matches against other county junior clubs. Some of our better juniors will have the opportunity to play for the St. Albans 7th team, in the adult Hertfordshire Chess Leagues.

The membership fee, for the year from September 2011 - May 2012, will be £15, and should be paid when the new season starts on Monday 12th September.

Organiser: Rosemary Phillips

Junior Coaches: Jonathan Phillips and Tom McConnell
