The 2012 St Albans South Herts Congress Took Place on 31 March and 1 April

The St Albans Chess Club is delighted to announce that 181 chess players from all over the UK took part in the 30th annual St Albans South Herts Congress at St Columba's College:

  • 18 in the Open Tournament (no grade restrictions)
  • 24 in the Challengers Tournamnet (grades 180 and below)
  • 32 in the Major Tournament (grades 160 and below)
  • 48 in the Intermediate Tournament (grades 140 and below)
  • 59 in the Minor Tournament (grades 120 and below).

Joint winners of the Open Tournament were Richard Tozer (Cambridge City) and Paul Georghiou (Barnet Elizabethans). The Grading Prize was awarded to Stephen Law (Hemel Hempstead).
 

Joint winners of the Challengers Tournament were Richard Bryant (Chester), Joseph Levene (Queen Elizabeth School Barnet)and Charles Marsh (Guildford). The Grading Prize was awarded to Kumar Dixit (Camberley).

 

Joint winners of the Major Tournament were Richard Desmedt (Wombwell) and Charlie Nettleton (Drunken Knights). The Grading Prize was awarded to Taran Jina (Harpenden Juniors).

The Intermediate Tournament produced an outright winner: Peter Nickals (Wanstead). The Grading Prize was awarded to John McKeon (Milton Keynes).

Joint winners of the Minor Tournament were Lee Bullock (Coulsdon), Douglas Bramley (Spondon) and Steve Crockett (Redditch). The Grading Prize was awarded to Lee Bullock (Coulsdon).

The prize for the Best Veteran was awarded to Richard Desmedt (Wombwell), while the Best Junior prize was awarded to Andrew Smailes (Guildford).
